VNA's therapists earn blue ribbon from Barb

Barb, a retired DPS teacher and an active, independent equestrian and dog trainer who’s ever on-the-go, fractured her tibia just below the knee while working with her horse. Unaccustomed to a full-length leg brace and walker, Barb was delighted when Deb, a VNA occupational therapist, came to visit.

“Deb was so competent. She helped me learn what I could do versus telling me what I couldn’t do,” said Barb. “I learned simple and complex things, like taking a shower by myself and using my walker with more confidence. That's huge!”

Meanwhile, Henry, VNA physical therapist, helped Barb with strength-building exercises, encouraging her while challenging her to progress. Barb smiles. “He was exactly what I needed, a kind but diligent drill sergeant!”
Thanks to Deb and Henry, Barb has transferred to a cane and is getting back to her horses and dogs. She’s looking forward to the rest of the year.
“The VNA team was so accommodating, and the caregivers were incredibly encouraging,” said Barb. “I am very happy with Visiting Nurse Association.”
